Derek Apanovitch

Chief Executive Officer

Derek Apanovitch is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Global Safety Management. Derek also serves as a Board Member at GSM. Derek is an experienced strategic and operational executive in technology-enabled environments that have evolved rapidly and achieved significant size.

Derek was most recently President of Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA), an online healthcare training and continuing medical education organization committed to equipping and empowering students to excel in healthcare careers. UMA developed innovative educational technologies, workforce development strategies, and student support programs. The institution has achieved industry-leading student satisfaction scores and developed employer partnerships with prominent national and regional healthcare companies. Derek was the founding executive and first employee of the online education division at UMA that eventually was responsible for over 85% of the organization’s $300 MM revenue. He served as President from 2015 to 2019. The President is the senior executive for the organization and reports directly to the board.

Previously, Derek was the Vice President of Marketing at Health Benefits Direct Corporation (doing business today as InsPro Technologies Corporation), a direct marketer and distributor of a wide range of health and life insurance products to individuals, families and groups, where he worked from April 2007 to July 2008. Earlier, Derek was an Executive Director of Acquisition and Retention at Kaplan Higher Education, a diversified online educational services provider, where he worked from 2004 through 2007. Prior to Kaplan Higher Education, he was an Associate at Sullivan & Cromwell, an international law firm, where he was responsible for consultation on private and public equity and debt offerings, mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, restructurings and corporate governance issues. Derek started his legal career as a judicial clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Derek holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University with concentrations in Health Industry Management and Accounting, a JD from the Duke University School of Law, and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
